French luxury fashion house, Dior is going to commemorate its seventy years in the fashion business with an expansive retrospective exhibition during the upcoming Couture Week in Paris. The exposition will celebrate the long heritage of its Founder, Christian Dior as well as his successors up until the current Creative Director, Maria Grazia Chiuri. The haute couture house has been going through something of a creative disruption with its first female creative head in place and the exhibition, named ‘couturier du rêve’ comes at a perfect time to look back at its rich history.

The show is curated by Florence Müller and Olivier Gabet, who have chosen to present the house’s lineage of creativity in a chronological order. The central focus for the exhibit is obviously Monsieur Dior, the founder himself, whose genius understanding of beauty and understanding of the contemporary yet fashionable woman is what has kept the house shining ever since its inception in 1905. From his days of devising the New Look in 1947, which revolutionized wartime fashion, the exhibition will move forward to his successors like Yves Saint Laurent, who clean and sophisticated idea of romance always kept the house relevant. Post that, the show moves to other creatives like Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, Raf Simons and the most current director Chiuri, each of whom have taken to the house’s regalia and made it their own.
The show really aims to project the whole process of creating these fashions and will display everything from sketches and illustrations, toiles d’atelier, fashion photography to press imagery and advertising. Apart from garments, the exhibition consists of accessories like hats, jewellery, footwear, bags as well as period pieces like furniture, paintings and objets d’art from relevant decades to help the visitors in placing the clothes in context with their times.
The retrospective is open to visitors from July 7 to January 7, 2018 in the nave of Musée des Arts Décoratifs, which is decorated like a ball, featuring gowns worn by Princess Grace, Lady Diana, Charlize Theron and Jennifer Lawrence.
