During July ’16 to April ’17 period, Pakistan’s textile and clothing exports fell 0.92 per cent year-on-year to US $ 10.29 billion. Data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics shows that decline was recorded in value terms too.
Explaining the reason of low exports, the Bureau claims lesser proceeds from raw material and low value-added products, such as cotton yarn and fabrics, were the major responsible factors. Particularly in April 2017, the value of exported textile and clothing products fell 0.41 per cent year-on-year to US $ 1.025 billion.

Whereas, in primary commodities, exports of cotton yarn witnessed a year-on-year decline of 3.68 per cent while those of cotton clothes and yarn (other than cotton) dropped 5.73 per cent and 29.48 per cent, respectively.
It may be mentioned here that decline in Pakistan’s textile exports is mainly recorded because the preferential access to the European Union under the GSP+ scheme hasn’t boosted proceeds due to a slump in demand.
