
As per the Ministry of Commerce report, in the first six month of the year, garment exports from Cambodia to the European Union has surged by nearly 20 per cent. The outbound shipments from Cambodia fetched US $ 3.9 billion in the first half of the year, as against US $ 3.28 billion for the corresponding period last year. The rise was buoyed by a 32 per cent surge in garments to the EU (excluding textiles and footwear).
According to Sivyong, Director of the Export-Import Department, political stability and less garment-worker strikes this year are the reasons for increased exports. On the other hand, exports to US, witnessed a 7 per cent dip to US $ 856 million in the first half of the year, with textiles registering a more than 40 per cent drop.
