With the aim of extending the functionality of smart apparels and delivering medical-grade data through less form-fitting, everyday apparels, Imec and Holst Centre have developed a t-shirt with ECG and motion sensing. Data such as the wearer’s heart rate, heart rate variability, activities performed, and calories burned, can be monitored and shared over the cloud via a mobile phone, tablet or PC. The module containing miniaturized electronics and battery weighs 7 grams and can be removed to wash the t-shirt or charge the battery.
This demonstration was held at the Imec Technology Forum (ITF), which brings together experts in semiconductor, electronics, embedded systems, information and communications technology, energy, and healthcare.
