Bangladesh recorded a double-digit growth in the first half of the current year in denim exports to the European Union, shipping denim products, especially trousers, worth Euro 529.53 million to the EU during January to June 2015, marking a 23 per cent growth compared to the same period last year, according to the BGMEA data based on Eurostat. This feat achieved by the country is nothing short of extraordinary considering that in 2009 it fetched only Euro 376.08 million by exporting denim products to the EU while during the same period, Turkey, the largest denim exporter to the regional market in 2013, earned Euro 450.75 million registering a 5 per cent growth.
