Brandix, India Apparel City Inaugurated 5,075 jobs already created
Tech/Manufacturing > 16 May 2010 : Konijeti Rosaiah, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, inaugurated Brandix India Apparel City (BIAC), which is located within the Andhra Pradesh Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) in Visakhapatnam at a grand ceremony held recently. Spread in an area of 1000 acres, the park is an infrastructure-rich, fully serviced and environmentally compliant manufacturing park. Congratulating the Management of BIAC for developing this park Rosaiah said, “Brandix India Apparel City is one of the largest textile industry-specific special economic zones in the world, and the only one of its scale and concept in South Asia.”
Gandhi Nagar, Delhi, Advances Technologically Makes a move towards exports
Tech/Manufacturing > 16 Apr 2010 : Gandhi Nagar in Delhi, Asia’s biggest manufacturing and trading market, is gradually moving towards upgradation. According to a survey by Apparel Online Hindi the market has nearly 15,000 small and big manufacturers and 8,000 traders supplying a huge variety of garments to domestic brands/retailers across India. The thriving hub is still primarily using the traditional umbrella machines for manufacturing and is now moving up towards modernisation.
SNQS International Builds India’s First LEED Silver Rated Textile Unit
Tech/Manufacturing > 16 Feb 2010 : Tirupur based exporter SNQS International has recently built a green rated textile unit at Avinashi. It is the first garment unit in India which has been silver rated under LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) New Construction (NC) programme of Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). This is indeed an achievement for the company as more and more buyers seek green options in manufacturing.
KINFRA Textile Centre Starts Allotments of Land
Tech/Manufacturing > 1 Dec 2009 : The textile centre at Nadukani, Kannur district, promoted by the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA) has started allotment of land to entrepreneurs in textile and garment manufacturing for setting up units.
MOU Signed in Ludhiana to Heighten Garment Business
Tech/Manufacturing > 16 Jun 2009 : Recently a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Federation of Knitwear, Textile and Allied Industries Association President, Vinod Thapar and Apex Cluster Development Services (ACDS) Director, Rajveer Singh in Ludhiana. It was reciprocally agreed that ACDS would lend a hand to the knitwear association for building capacity of members and guide them to become competitive in the global market.
ITC Shuts Down its Garment Factory in Nepal
Tech/Manufacturing > 16 Jun 2009 : Indian tobacco major ITC has shut down a state-of-the-art garment factory in southern Nepal due to security concerns after disputes with a Maoist labour union. Surya Nepal Pvt. Ltd. is a joint venture in which ITC owns majority shares with the rest held by British American Tobacco and private Nepali investors.

Dodaballapur Apparel Park Lacks Basic Infrastructure, but has Potential if Developed
Tech/Manufacturing > 1 May 2009 : The proposed apparel park near Dodaballapur in Karnataka built by the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) is in a stalemate situation like most of the apparel parks in the country. These parks were built to rope in apparel firms isolated in the city under one roof and promote business in a cluster format, but a majority of them lack proper infrastructure and have not developed as intended. Six years in the running these apparel house owners in the state have started questioning the integrity of the Karnataka Government towards the apparel industry and even suspect a foul play of land grabbing behind the whole project.

Multiline of Germany is setting up one of the world’s largest textile factories in Gazipur as it sees Bangladesh textile and apparel export doubling to $ 22 billion by 2011. The upcoming state-of-the-art knit composite manufacturing facility will be five times bigger than its nearest local rival. This will be the biggest German investment in Bangladesh and by far the largest the country’s textile sector has attracted from a foreign investor.

Power Punch to TN Textile Units
Tech/Manufacturing > 1 Dec 2008 : Tamil Nadu, the major hub of Textile Industry in the country, may soon go off the track if the problem of power cut is not sorted out immediately. “The highly labour-intensive textile industry will be forced to throw several lakhs of people out of jobs leading to industrial and social unrest,” said K.V. Srinivasan, Chairman of the Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA).
