Climate change is increasingly recognized as a major challenge by people, Governments and businesses across the world. This change has been the result of uninterrupted exploitation of Earth’s natural resources for human activities leading to excess greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Excess GHG emissions have been primarily due to increase in power generation, industrial production, transportation, land use and waste. Carbon Dioxide is the main component of GHG emissions. Other gases include methane, nitrous oxide, sulphur hexafluoride, etc. These gases result in global warming by accumulating and absorbing radiation, thus trapping the energy received by the Earth’s atmosphere. Fashion Designer Holli Gibson recently launched her LamanBlu collection for Spring/Summer 2013, made entirely from handpicked sustainable fabrics ranging from gracefully draped bamboo fabric to organic cottons and washable linens with custom prints. Trimmed in lace and satin ribbons with freshwater pearl beading, the collection pays homage to the sea creatures found in an astonishing array of colours.

The Japanese apparel brand Uniqlo has joined high profile retailers including names such as C&A, Topshop, H&M, Abercrombie & Fitch, Hugo Boss and Gap in pledging to phase out the use of mulesed wool.
