Apparel exports from Philippines have registered a 5% year-on-year growth and achieved the Government set target of US $ 2 billion in 2012, according to latest data released by the Department of Trade and Industry. The rise in clothing exports from Philippines is mainly stirred by the entry of Chinese producers, who are ardently eyeing the Philippine garment sector, Trade Undersecretary Cristino Panlilio said.
Changing colour at varying temperatures like a soft thermometer is Norwegian designer Siren Elise Wilhelmsen’s new innovation called ‘Season Carpet’. Almost like a magic carpet, he explains, “Our natural environment is always changing. Flowers are blooming at a certain temperature, leaves are falling off by another and the snow falls by temperatures below zero. In the same way the Season Carpet is sensible to temperature alteration and its colours and pattern is changing due to the surroundings; the weather and the season.”
With an aim to explore the Russian textile market, over 300 Indian apparel companies will showcase their products at the four-day Fashion Industry International Fair at Saint Petersburg, to be held in October. “Indian companies are targeting the Russian apparel market through this participation,” said Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), President A Sakthivel.
The Union Government has decided to extend the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme to the 12th Five Year Plan starting this year. “There will be more allocation under the 12th plan than under the 11th plan, so those in textiles sector must feel assured that the Government is conscious about their needs,” said Anand Sharma Union Minister for Commerce, Industry and Textiles. The TUF scheme aims at making funds available to the textile industry for technology upgradation of existing units as well as to setup new units.
Madura Fashion & Lifestyle is in the process of shutting flagship stores of the global fashion brand Esprit, as it looks to realign the loss making business.
India's largest fashion apparel firm is renegotiating its seven-year licensing and distribution deal with Esprit, which is due to end in less than a year. Esprit's stores in Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi are being converted into outlets of other Madura brands.
